When I was pregnant, I assumed we’d be doing most of our walks with a baby carrier. But after a few heatwaves, followed by the glorious Great British weather (rain!), I quickly realised that nugget would be spending a lot more time in the pram to protect him from the elements.
So, I’ve been on a mission to find some of the best pram friendly walks in South Yorkshire. I wanted routes that were easy to navigate with a pram, had somewhere to park nearby and ideally, had a cafe along the way for a well earned coffee and cake!
Below you’ll find five of our go to South Yorkshire pram walks, ranging from 3–6.5km. I’ve included parking information, what to expect from each route and links to the routes I use, so you can easily pick one for your next walk with your little one. Most of them also pass a cafe or have one nearby, because a pram walk is always better with cake!
1. Scout Dike Reservoir – 3km
A great circular walk, with a solid path the whole way around. The route is pretty flat, with only a couple of small inclines and the path is very clear and easy to follow, There is a free car park at the reservoir, and though there’s no cafe onsite, there are a couple of great options less than 5 minutes drive away. There is both step access and a sloped pathway down to the reservoir from the car park.
Parking: Free car park at the reservoir – S36 4GF
Cafe: Yummy Yorkshire or Milk from the Hills are both just a 5 minute drive away
2. Langsett Reservoir – 4km
Probably one of the most popular walks in the area, but a great one none the less. I’d reccomend going through the week if you can, or getting there early, as it does get incredibly busy at peak times over the weekend. It’s another circular route and can be a little bumby in places, but I have a ‘normal’ pushchair and it’s absolutely fine, the bumps usually just put little one to sleep.
Parking: Free car park at the reservoir – Langsett Barn S36 8FD. There is an additional car park if this one is full – Langsett Flouch S36 9FD however this one requires crossing the road and you would need to adjust the route accordingly.
Cafe: Bank view cafe is just over the road from the Langsett Barn car park
3. Worsbrough Country Park – 3km
This is a lovely, flat circular loop through woodland and around the reservoir. I always find the views a pleasant surprise given how close it is to a built up area. There is a pay and display car park, with a cafe just next to it. It is a littlle bumpy in places, and can get a bit muddy in spots after very heavy rainfall.
Parking: Pay and display car park – Worsbrough Mill S70 5LL
Cafe: Millers Tea Room is just by the car park, there are also a couple of other cafes in Worsbrough itself, or an Asda if you fancied a picnic
4. Trans Pennine Trail – From Dunford Bridge – 6.4km
A scenic, flat out and back route. I’m not usually a fan of walks that aren’t circular, but this one has become a stample in our pram rotation. It’s a good length, with a lovely little cafe at the halfway point and is fairly sheltered if the weather isn’t too great. There’s a free car park, as well as a little book library along the trail. It’s a great path for prams, and me and a couple of other mums sometimes use it for our coach to 5k runs (even with non-running pushchairs)

Cafe: Magic Wood Cafe, on the trail (check opening days and times on their facebook)
5. Morehall Reservoir – 3.5km
Another great circular walk around Morehall reservoir. One side is through the trees and the other is along a paved track. It can be extended to include Broomhead, but that isn’t pushchair friendly, so you would need a carrier if wanting to do both.
Parking: Road side parking and pull-ins on the access road – S36 3ST
Cafe: Unfortunately there isn’t a cafe on this route
