I have always been a water baby, but it’s only recently that I’ve started taking cold water dips. I often get told ‘I’m crazy’ and so many people ask me why I do it, but I think it’s definitely something you need to do to understand.
For me, my winter wild swims have been an absolute life saver over the last few months. During my toughest times, they were a complete escape and the only way I could clear my head. They’ve become a kind of therapy for me, though now it’s for fun rather than the initial escape which got me hooked.
I am certainly no expert, I’ve just found something I love and I’m learning as I go. However, I do get a lot of people over Instagram asking me for tips to get started and how I cope with the cold. I currently don’t stay in the water very long (tops 20 mins) then make sure I’ve got lots of warm, dry layers to get changed into, gloves and a hot drink!
I’m hoping to soon get into longer swims, building up both my time and distance. Lots of things on my kit wish list including neoprene gloves, socks and a wetsuit. I’m so excited to be able to start getting out further and explore more swim spots once lockdown eases.
