When lockdown first hit, I was at the start of a new job, newly separated and living on my own for the first time. I have never been great in my own company and always seems to find myself in a downward spiral whenever I spend too much time on my own.
To keep myself busy, I started going out hiking. I was originally going on my own, but then in July I joined a Facebook walking group called ‘Peaks N Pubs’ where I met a bunch of amazing, like minded people. This pushed me way out of my comfort zone, but the people I’ve met have become some of my closest friends. I walked more miles than I ever thought I could, and I even climbed Everest on my stairs whilst self isolating!
I started an Instagram account to share my walking photos – This page has become more than I’d ever imagined. There is an incredible outdoors community on Instagram and I’ve made friends all over the country. It’s allowed me to express myself and grow my confidence, as well as opening up some amazing opportunities (watch this space).
Alongside hiking, I’ve also discovered the amazing benefits of wild swimming. So many people have told me I’m crazy, but I say give it a try and then tell me I’m crazy! It’s one of the most invigorating feelings and after a bad day, nothing helps to clear my head more.
I decided to start writing this blog to remember my journey, logging the highs (and the lows) as I continue to follow my heart and passions in the outdoors. With so many exciting things on the horizon, I’m trying to take the time to appreciate every little step along the way.
Over the last few months I’ve really started to find myself and find the things that truly make me happy. I want a life where I spend more time living.
