The Yorkshire Three Peaks

Last week I took on one of my biggest challenges to date, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.

You would think being a Yorkshire girl, I would have done this before now, or at least one of them, but no. It has been on my list for a while and I really wanted to end my two-week easter holiday’s by really pushing myself.

It was a bit of a last-minute decision, as my weekend plans had fallen through. I was going to attempt it on my own, but at the night before, a friend from Instagram asked if I fancied some company.

The challenge consists of a nearly 40km route, climbing three of the peaks in the Yorkshire Dales (Pen Y Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough). I found a gpx file for the route here. I parked in a layby in Horton in Ribblesdale, but you will need to get their early to ensure you get a space (especially at weekends and in the holidays).

The paths and routes up the three peaks are pretty varied in terms of difficulty, with the last push up Ingleborough being the toughest (in my opinion).

For a route like this you need to make sure you’re prepared, We were hit with all kinds of weather ranging from bright sunshine to a full blizzard. It’s important to make sure you have plenty of layers, waterproofs, food and drink as well as kit such as a power pack (especially if you rely on your phone for your map/route).

In total, the hike took us 9 and a half hours (Just over 8 hours moving time). This was definitely my toughest challenge yet and I’m really proud of myself for achieving it. It was the perfect end to an amazing Easter holidays.

I’m excited to get some more challenges planned!

Have you completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks?
